The Lauaxeta Ikastola educational project has a holistic view of people and of education, and it is therefore important for it to include practice and experience in different fields and subjects.
It is essential for those who are to become the people of the future, the citizens of the future and the professionals of the future.
Our aim is for the students to develop ethical, social and civic values and commitments from Pre-primary Education onwards.
At Pre-primary level there are weekly ethics and philosophy sessions where in addition to developing philosophical and critical thinking, the students will also develop these values through:
Digital competence is undoubtedly a key competence in the future of our students. That is why in Lauaxeta we have a multidisciplinary team of professionals who are responsible for thinking and making decisions about the incorporation of technologies in the classroom.
The students reinforce their scientific and technological knowledge through robotics workshops, which help them get to know the programming languages and study them in depth.
They also realise the importance of logical, structured thinking. We run a special robotics workshop using ARkiLego robots and LEGO Mindstorm, Arduino and other programming languages.
Reflective learning is the most effective way of guaranteeing that what is to be learnt – both attitudes and content – is learnt in depth.
The students constantly analyse and assess the work process carried out and draw conclusions for its improvement, which they later apply.
Thinking is the key to the learning process.
Thought processes are increasingly effective and will become more significant and enriching in all areas of learning, on both a personal and academic level.
A critical approach to life, knowing how to develop your own criteria, justified reasoning, etc. are the key components of the skill of critical thinking.
In today’s world, the challenge is to develop expertise while being useful to society, and the Lauaxeta students therefore take part in different learning projects.
These projects not only help them improve their knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and moral values, they also enable them to act as citizens committed to their environment..
Finally, the Ikastola gives Post-secondary students the opportunity to develop their social commitment. This project is run by the Ikastola in collaboration with several chartered entities.
Each student takes part in the project they find the most meaningful, encouraging commitment and proximity.
Each student acquires reading and comprehension skills by progressively creating their own reading portfolio, consisting of the books best suited to their tastes and interests.
Clearly, literature has to be experienced first-hand, and a taste for reading is developed through emotion, so we develop literary projects to give the students the chance to form an emotional bond with the books they read.
Although we all have an innate creative capacity from early childhood, finding stimulating opportunities in our surrounding environment increases our creative and divergent thinking more and more.

Also, at Secondary and Post-secondary level the students have the opportunity to create their own entrepreneurship project, and they are even able to make contact with professional advisors to aid them in this process.
Our relationship with nature and the natural environment is built up from a very early age. The Researcher Programme is a programme that includes a series of projects connected with nature studies.
The students become researchers and explorers, forming hypotheses, collecting and analysing data and reflecting on the causes and influences of the natural forces and elements. The school garden is a vital factor in this programme.
It provides environmental education for the students, who learn to respect the environment and understand our relationship with nature.
Research and experimentation are two of the main goals of the sciences and STEM subjects.
The Lauazoka Science Fair is held so that the students can put these studies into practice and present and defend them before an audience. At the fair, they present STEM area projects developed by different groups of students, and it is also useful to them as a practice run for the Elhuyar Science Fair.
Green Power is a project developed by Post-secondary students taking STEAM subjects.
This project brings together the areas of STEAM and Economy, as the students manage the entire project from start to finish. The students design and manufacture a car that will compete in races, on the basis of electric mobility and applying technical knowledge of engineering, technology, physics, chemistry and economy.
