To help families balance childcare responsibilities with working life, an optional Childcare Service is available. This service focuses on childcare and informal educational activities, complementing and extending the regular school calendar.
The service will be supervised by childcare educators rather than class teachers, and the Early Years classrooms and facilities will be used.
A few weeks before each corresponding period, families will receive a circular with information on how to register for the services listed below.
Families wishing to book these additional services for more than one child must submit a separate registration form for each child.
It is not recommended that children spend more than eight hours a day at the ikastola.
The joint adaptation period during the first week of September is a process through which families help their child transition into the school environment.
During this period, children have the opportunity to become familiar with their new surroundings, the teaching staff and their classmates, while still benefiting from the reassuring presence of a family member.
Gradually, parents or guardians begin to leave the classroom for longer periods of time. This allows the child to become accustomed to separation and to the daily school routine in a safe and progressive way.
We believe that each child needs their own individual adaptation process. We therefore try to respond to the needs they show at each stage, while always working within the school’s general organisational framework.
In general, the adaptation period will take place during the first week of September, at the beginning of the school year.
However, when a child starts school at any other point during the academic year, the adaptation process will take place during their first week.
Once the adaptation period has ended, families will no longer be allowed to enter the classroom.
During the first week of September, the adaptation period may take place at any time within the school day, provided that this has been agreed in advance with the teacher.
Families must contact the teacher beforehand to request an appointment, so that a personalised welcome can be properly organised.
Only one adult family member may be present during the adaptation period.
Each family member may remain in the classroom for a maximum of two hours. During this time, it is essential to follow the teacher’s instructions in order to ensure a positive adaptation process, without questioning them and showing full trust in the teacher.
During these two hours, families should encourage the child to approach the teacher or to play with the classroom materials, while gradually beginning to move further away.
Families will be able to maintain visual contact with the child at all times and may approach them whenever necessary. This will help the child feel reassured by knowing that their family member is still nearby.
During this process, families are asked to remain silent so as not to interrupt the children’s play, to keep noise levels to a minimum and to convey a sense of calm and reassurance to the pupils.
